Investigating the Impact of Earnings Management and Institutional Ownership on the Investment Efficiency of Companies Listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange

The main purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between the earnings management, institutional ownership and the investment efficiency of companie. In this regard, three hypotheses were formulated, which were generalized through three multiple linear regression models using the least squares regression method and tested using the quantile regression method. In order to test the hypotheses, a sample consisting of 195 companies was selected from among the companies admitted to the Tehran Stock Exchange in a 5-year period from 2018 to 2022 using a targeted elimination method. Research data has been collected with the approach of mixed data and has been statistically analyzed with the help of Excel 2016 and Eviews 13 software. The research results show that institutional ownership has a positive and significant effect on investment efficiency. Also, the results of quantile regression analysis show that the effect of institutional ownership on investment efficiency in the first quarter is positive and significant. Also, another part of the results shows that accrual earning management has a negative and significant effect on investment efficiency and And based on quantile regression analysis, the effect of accrual earning management on investment efficiency in the first quarter is negative and significant. Finally, the other part of the research results, based on quantile regression analysis, shows the negative and significant effect of institutional ownership on the relationship between accrual earning management and investment efficiency in the second and third quartiles.
